With around one lakh test takers, Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is counted among the most popular management entrance exams in India. It is conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur on behalf of XAMI members. The scores of XAT exam are not just accepted by XLRI, but also by several other management colleges in India.

Unlike Common Admission Test (CAT) and many other management entrance exams, XAT is conducted in pen and paper mode.
XAT exam is divided into two parts – Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 comprises three sections – Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation. Paper 2 comprises two sections – General Knowledge and Essay Writing.
As far as the marking scheme is concerned, the candidates will be awarded one mark for every correct answer. Also, there is negative marking in the exam. For every incorrect answer, 0.25 mark will be deducted. Moreover, the candidates cannot leave more than 12 questions un-attempted.
The total duration of the exam is 3.5 hours.
XAT has a reputation of being difficult and lengthy. The syllabus of XAT covers a wide range of topics. It is important for the candidates to understand all the topics. Also, the candidates need to indentify the topics from which the questions are asked in the exam. Solving XAT sample papers and previous year question papers is an excellent way to do so. This will also help the candidates understand the XAT exam pattern and prepare them for the exam. The candidates need to put in a lot of hard work to crack this highly competitive exam.
On the basis of XAT result, the candidates can seek admission in many of the leading management colleges across the country. The notification of XAT exam is likely to be announced soon and the application process is expected to start in the third week of August, 2017. XLRI has already announced the exam date which is January 7 (Sunday), 2018. The candidates are advised to stay updated on the important dates of XAT to ensure that they don’t miss any deadlines.
